What college degree would be good if I wanted a job in politics?

…maybe this is a no-brainer, thanks for bearing with me… I am interested to find out if any other degrees (even music) would give me a fresh more thoughtful educational background in a career in politics? Is any degree as valuable as political science? I don’t know what field of politics I am interested in.
I am a 33 y/o returning college student.

PoliSci is a good choice of course, but also consider Urban Planning, Economics, or Labor Studies.
Apart from Political Science, Economics would most likely be the most applicable subject. Have you tried speaking to local politicians for advice?
PoliSci is everyone’s obvious choice. I’m a Social Science major with hopes of becoming a lawyer one day. I recommend this major for politics as well as law because it is rich in the study of politics,sociology,psychology and history. It’s a liberal art degree and at my university you can choose from so many electives.
Political Science is the way to go if you don’t have any specific idea of what you want to do in order to break into the political scene or if you don’t know what specific fields you are passionate about. However, I would not recommend a degree in political science mainly because it is too popular a degree. Unless you go to a college or university that has a very esteemed political science program, opt for something else.
I would suggest a History/Philosophy double major and then go to law school. If you aren’t into those subjects, a business degree would be very beneficial. Whatever you choose, the hard part is breaking into the political world. Being different and excelling in what you do is the absolute best way to get ahead in this industry. Following the crowd of political science majors will only make it more difficult for you to stand out.
Also, more than the specific major you are going for, you will need to make the right connections. If you can, go to a school that is known for politicians or one that is in Washington DC. Elefoo.com will help you find colleges by location.
