Im going into my junior year of high school and have no idea where to start looking for colleges. I want to be a teacher of kids around kindergarten or 1st grade age. What kind of degree would I need for that? Any good colleges for teaching degrees?

Id like to go to college in California, Oregon or New York. But ill go wherever the best school is.

Most state schools and private universities have Liberal Studies/Arts programs that fulfill the requirements to become an elementary school teacher.

You’ll need to major in liberal arts, take a bunch of state tests, and apply for a credential program. Any of the “Cal State…” Schools have excellent teaching programs, but because the eduction budget has been severely cut, there will be far Less applicants being accepted into any state school.

Your best option is probably YOUR state’s flagship university. You’ll have the home court advantage for licensing and tuition costs.

Majoring in education doesn’t matter where you go, as long as it’s an accredited institution. Unlike some other majors, there is no prestige factor that will get you a “better” teaching position or pay. I would strongly recommend you stay in-state to have the lowest tuition at a public institution. This is as you WILL be required to repay all loans and a teaching job salary will quite low, making it difficult to repay high loans.
