Is having a college degree the key to having job security nowadays?

It seems that the areas hit economically the hardest in the US are areas that have lower rates of college graduates and that have a large working class population like Michigan, Ohio, upstate New York, etc.
So is the key to future job security in the US being able to have a 4 year college degree [...]
