How hard is it to get a teaching degree versus a major in the field you want to teach in?

Looking to become a high school math teacher, and I’m just curious..would it be better to get a degree in Mathematics, or a degree in Teaching? If I get a degree in Math, how hard would it be to able to teach after? I’d think going Math would be better since I’d have more math classes, but I guess I need the teaching degree to be able to teach?

You actually do something of a blend of these options, depending on what state you’re in and what school you go to. At the middle/high school level, most teachers have degrees in the subject they teach, with some sort of teaching extra to supplement that so they can get certified. But there’s many ways of doing this.

If you know what state you want to teach in, I suggest looking at their certification requirements for high school math teachers to find out what they expect you to do.
