Her college degree was revoked the day before graduation because the dean saw a picture on her myspace. Big Brother is watch. Your privacy is no longer.
For all those inclined to take the student’s side, the full story is at Rate Your Students. The “cooperating teacher” whose class Ms. Snyder was teaching as a student teacher criticized her handling of the classroom, her grammar and usage, and her ignorance of the subject she was teaching. She also criticized the communicating teacher on Myspace, where she communicated with students. Rather than accepting the uni’s generous offer to move her credits around for a English degree, she sued.
wow look how many college students are drinking and you got a picture of her drinking from a cup ON A PARTY this is stupid
Kids are kids.
Just like bad parents to blame a public servant for their failure to properly raise their kids. I never underage drank, and it is because I was raised properly.
That’s her fucking private life. She has the right to drink even if she works with children. That is so ridiculous. I hope she got her degree back… the dean should be expeled.
I agree that in general, laws should be passed that would prevent employers (and schools) from meddling in employees’ or students’ personal lives, but in this case if you read the judge’s decision you will find that the school had documented all along that this lady had unsatisfactory progress in the teaching program; no control over the classroom, making up answers to students in class when she didn’t know the correct answer, inappropriate remarks to her students during class…etc.
What are the students looking their teacher up on myspace for, wtf?…that’s fucking weird.
Now that is harsh!
my sort? lol not at all. i get that this is total bs but im just saying that u dont become a cop if ur a drug dealer for example…u know what i mean? thats all i meant to say.
Yes, if they tell you, but if they don’t, it’s ridiculous. You want me to be something, you’d better tell me what you want me to be and give me a chance to “change” to a reasonable norm. If you want to keep me back in life and a slave to my youth, I hope you’re going to deal with the demonic me because I’ll be stuck like that.
Your job should never be you your life. They don’t pay you for the time you spend outside their business, so they have absolutly no say in what you do at these times. Your private life is YOUR private life.
It’s your sort that alows this sort of crap to happen.
Sue the HELL out of them!!!! There is nothing wrong with that picture. Maybe they should give her money back for tuition spent.
Fuck role models.
dressing, acting, persuing the life style of something that discredits the company you work for is absolutely not acceptable in my eyes. you take a duty to uphold the publics view on that company. if u dress slutty, act slutty, have stupid ass face book and my space pics…then its ur own dumb ass fault and u deserve it. because ur a liar!!! living a double life.
would probably be less severe if she had posted those pictures while she was underage…. absolute bullshit.
No way, man. The entire purpose of alcohol is to attain some level of intoxication. People don’t drink alcohol for the wonderful taste.
Trying to tell teachers they can’t drink is like telling them, “We know skydiving is legal…but it encourages needless risk-taking. You can’t be a teacher and skydive. You’re held to higher standards.”
Anyway…I read the judge’s ruling on this case and the picture was not the reason for the refusal. She was extremely incompetent and unprofessional.
Drinking alcohol is one thing. Being intoxicated or the implication of intoxication is another.
As an educator you assume the position of a role model for your students. I wouldn’t want someone who gets plastered and then brags about it educating our children. If they see their teachers doing it they’ll think it’s ok to do it themselves.
Teachers can and should be held to much higher standards than the general pubic. The university made the right choice.
You can’t be an educator and get away with drinking alcohol legally??
She’s not “guilty” of anything!
i hope she wins…damn university has no right to do that.
Be careful what you put on the internet, folks.
I wouldn’t want a “drunken pirate” educating my children either. I think the university and the state made the right decision here.
Even if she wasn’t drunk or drinking alcohol, she is guilty by self-implication. You just can’t be an educator and get away with that. Period.
That’s illegal, The university can’t do that, they can’t take away your degree! because you spended all that money getting it so that would be a RIP OFF thats illegal. They should refund all of her money if they’re going to take away her degree.
This is ridiculous.
if ur a teacher u cant drink?? lol
The kids at 16(?) is more irresponsible of her than a drink at 25! If I were the layer for the Uni I would use that to show her inability to make good decisions.
what a joke…. bunch of bitter sad old dickheads. getting a degree is hard fucking work
