can having an MBA lead to a good job in the fashion industry?

Without specifically majoring or minoring in fashion school? I know that having an MBA opens up all doors of opportunities so would an mba grad be able to land a good job in that area? My interests are very broad and I am very creative and willing to be experimental. Advertising and magazines also are of interest to me. Is it impossible to make it to the top of the fashion industry without another degree outside of mba, or is experience sufficient nowadays?

  1. PE2008 says:

MBA or not, Fashion is a cutthroat business with mostly low pay, high pressure, dead end jobs. Pay is kept low because too many starry-eyed fools enter the industry thinking they’re going to make it big.

In this economy, there are no guarantees of anything. A MBA will open doors that a BA won’t, but nothing says that you will get job offers regardless. You need experience, you need degrees, you need to be better than everyone else who applies.

You already have two good answers. An MBA can lead to a good job, but there are no guarantees. Advertising or publishing may be better.

The Official MBA Guide provides a lot of information about the MBA degree and MBA schools and programs. It’s a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It’s the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.
